Le Tapis de Laine and its strap: the natural pair for deeper, smoother stretching, controlled like a seasoned yogi

From the Larzac to your living room: manufacturing that makes sense

It all starts in the Roquefort PDO area, where the standards require farmers to practise pastoral grazing. Once collected, the wool is carded and felted in Aveyron by Filature Colbert, producing the dense, compact felt that gives the mat its body. In our workshop, we cut the felt and apply the non-slip coating to both faces. Everything up to the moment your parcel ships happens in our workshop, with a hiring policy that supports people returning to work.

And the strap? As we cannot yet have it made in France, it is sewn in India from organic cotton by an association that helps women survivors of violence rebuild their lives.

No fuss: the right way to care for it

Good news: what wool loves most is… breathing. After a session, leave the mat to air out quietly and the moisture leaves on its own. For dust: a quick pass with the vacuum. For a mark: lightly soapy sponge, then air-dry (not on a radiator). And skip the washing machine.

A mat that is more local, more sober, more fair

We start from a simple fact: 90% of French wool is still thrown away for want of a market. We turn it into the most comfortable yoga mat on the market. And at the end of its life it is compostable: cut it into pieces, lay them at the foot of a tree and they feed the soil. It is a useful, beautiful, long-lasting object. A renewable material (no petrochemicals), French production, rooted in the Roquefort PDO area and the Larzac: fewer materials travelling, more local common sense. And the strap follows the same logic of impact: made in India by an association helping women survivors of violence rebuild their lives.

For every mat sold, we give €2 to projects supporting the revival of the French wool industry.

Your questions, our answers

What are your mats made of?

Made from Larzac wool, sourced from Lacaune sheep farms in the Roquefort AOP region. It is a byproduct of dairy production: shearing is necessary for the animals' well-being, so the fiber exists regardless. It is felted at the Filature Colbert in Camarès, then crafted in our Saint-Affrique workshop. No dyes or chemical treatments added.

How do I clean my wool mat?

Like a wool sweater, wool cleans itself when left to air out. In general, air out your mat as often as possible to let the wool breathe. Regular cleaning extends the life of the mat. Vacuum whenever necessary to remove dust.

Why choose wool over a synthetic mat?

For three measurable reasons. Wool absorbs up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp, compared to less than 1% for most synthetic fibers, so it stays comfortable even during intense sessions. Its keratin naturally limits the growth of odor-causing bacteria without chemical treatments. Finally, it contains no phthalates, which ANSES classifies as endocrine disruptors and which are found in PVC mats. At the end of its life, it is 95% biodegradable within fifteen weeks.

Can the wool mat help relieve joint pain?

Yes, a thick mat cushions and relieves the joints. With 8 mm of dense wool, the mat provides real support for knees and elbows. Larzac wool from Lacaune sheep is known for its resilient qualities, particularly in bedding.

Can the wool mat be recycled?

Wool is a natural, biodegradable material: at the end of its life, it can be composted or reused, for example as garden mulch. While the thin non-slip polymer layer on our yoga mats is not compostable, our meditation and play mats are 100% wool.
